After a very long (and unintentional) hiatus, I've reintroduced myself to the blogging world.  I ready many blogs each day, yet I never seem to think that anything I am up to is worthy of a blog post.  But thanks to one of my college friends, I'm back with stories from my exciting and unpredictable life.

As my friend wrote: "you are so dramatic, you can turn a mundane story into something crazy."
I'll keep this post short and sweet.

Thanks for dropping by, and please come back soon!

The Beginning of My Blog

Welcome to my blog!  I have started about six blogs and always seem to leave them hanging, but I have decided to document my wildly exciting life as a college grad in search of a job, who happens to love food and drinks, and is a suburban girl at heart, living in a city.

I seem to find myself in strange predicaments often, and in the words of my lovely Mom, “things like this only happen to you.” (Thanks, Mom!)  I envision this blog a combination of a journal about my job search and a place to keep track of bizarre events that decorate my life.

Here is what has inspired this blog:

Two days ago my internship at an amazing public relations agency ended.  After nine months, it ended.  What bittersweet feelings consumed me that day (and for a week leading up to my final day).  I don’t think I am quite ready for a year without summer vacation (after all, I have had summer vacation since I was born), so here I sit, writing this blog post, and updating my resume, listening to country music on Pandora while two fans blow hot, humid air around my room.  Apparently, this is what summer in a city feels like for a college graduate without a job.

There are a hundred things I would like to do this summer, but without a steady source of money flowing into my bank account, they may be limited or postponed until I am 32 (hopefully, by then I will have a job).

I am looking for a job in PR, communications, journalism, media relations, marketing, branding…really, anything, I guess.  The reactions I have gotten when telling people what type of job I am looking for are either “journalism is a disappearing industry,” or “there are jobs, you just have to dig for them.”  Hmmm.

My frustrations over job searching are as follows: 1) Being underqualified (3-5 years experience is the new “entry-level”). 2) Writing cover letters (necessary, but quite tedious). 3) The coffee shops and cafes that I would love to be sitting in, but know that I enjoy people-watching much more than actually being productive. 4) My computer that is currently driving the struggle bus, and decides to freeze, suggest updates, and get burning hot every 5 minutes or so.

Follow this blog to read about my job search, my adventures in the city, and the situations I encounter along the way.  Perhaps I will review restaurants/cafes/bars/markets along the way.  I fly by the seat of my pants, and I am okay with that—except when it comes to jobs.  I really, really, really want a job.  Really.
